We bought a vacation home about a year and a half ago, and had a pleasant experience. I rated our realtor 5 stars at the time. We are retiring in less than a year and were planning to use them again. Our daughter got a job and moved into our vacation home last month. We reached out to the same realtor to start a home search for her and were told there is now a $500 retainer fee to even speak with her. This is after we were already (as a family) a customer. It gives off used car dealership vibes. They lost the potential sale of my daughter’s starter home and subsequent houses I’m sure she will be purchasing. My husband and I will be going elsewhere for our retirement home that will be a significant cost. We are also looking to get our second daughter to the region, who will be buying subsequent houses in the future. Hope it was worth the $500 “retainer fee.”
