Renting from SVN Second Story Real Estate Management has been an AWFUL experience and I would urge everyone I know to stay away from buildings that they manage.

I signed a lease on an apartment in Fort Wood in April 2023. It was PERFECT. Average to slightly high rent prices, but it was in a cute historic building and came with free parking (which is rare downtown).

In August, the building was sold and property management was taken over by Second Story. The first thing we heard was that everyone in the building would be without hot water for 4 days while they transitioned utilities.

The next time we heard from them, they raised all existing amenity fees and enstated 2 new fees - $50/month for an unreserved parking spot and $10/month for using the outdoor dumpster. They also more than doubled the fee for reserved parking spots to $75/month, but let residents know they don’t have a list of parking assignments and you should park wherever there’s an opening (which completely defeats the purpose of paying for a reserved spot lol).

After that, 3 out of the 4 washers broke in the laundry room that’s used by 60+ apartments. It has been almost 3 weeks, multiple emails have been sent by myself and other residents, and the washers still sit unplugged and broken while we fight over 1 machine.

During all of this, they admitted to losing a maintenance request for my kitchen and ghosted me for a week until I followed up multiple times.

In summary, they are not only disorganized, but won’t make any effort to handle maintenance issues while prioritizing squeezing out every penny that they can get from residents. Stay far far far far far away 🙅🏻‍♀️

Do not work for this company with the management they brought in. I worked there 3 and half years and was great until they brought new management in and ruined everything. Nate Davis does not do anything or knows how. Micromanage,favortism,workload is not balanced out. One of the worse teams I've ever seen. I wished I had never wasted my time with them. They will always have a turnover with maintenace.

Allison has gone above and beyond every time she has been tasked with helping us. I feel my service has been a genuinely great experience due to Allison’s help. She is always so patient, transparent, understanding, and willing to help. She is quick to respond and consistently follows up. I can tell that she genuinely is concerned with the smooth and safe operation of our center. She goes out of her way and is always gracious with our request. I am confident in the results when Allison is assigned with a task. She keeps us well informed and up to date. Love working with her!

Tara viland is an utter disgrace!

She has lied to us, continually pushed our payments and forgotten to submit them to accounts and then wants to talk down to my office manager and demean her.

She then calls me to argue with me on the phone and continually interrupts me.

One of the most unprofessional and rude properties managers I have ever dealt with in 10 years of business.
