Two weeks in the ICU in December. What other hospital has an infectious disease specialist (1), kidney (2), urologist (3) and hospitalist (4) meet every morning just outside my room? World class service.

“About to close” from another reviewer. Is is amazing what people can be made to believe …

I drove from Cranston, RI for an orthopedic appointment with my surgeon as well as visiting the hospital for a friend’s surgery. Accommodating staff, friendly & extremely helpful for those whom aren’t familiar with SCH. Not overly populated like Kent County Hospital, RI Hospital, etc. Easily accessible and no garage to park in; then walk a mile to the hospital. Parking was simple but does become busy later in the morning/early afternoons. I would recommend earlier appointments. Handicap spots are just steps away from entrance. If picking up someone; you may park right in front of main entrance. Nurses are wonderful! I have visited the hospital as well as Ortho RI located next door in same building. Great experience! No waiting if you have an appointment. Highly recommended & worth the driving distance for those whom don’t reside near/in the South County area. 5 stars for sure.

i’ve heard mixed reviews but my experience here coming by ambulance was the best i’ve had at any hospital. i was seen immediately and every nurse and doctor was kind, funny, and compassionate and checked on me frequently. i felt they did a great job of keeping track of and addressing my symptoms. huge thank you to the staff here, you kept me comfortable and at ease during a scary situation. everyone spoke to me with empathy and concern and it was very appreciated given my anxiety

I Brought my 89 yr old father to the ER today. He has had BLACK tarry stool for about 2 months. (my Dad didn’t want to alarm anyone) They took him to a room in the ER, he got an EKG and blood work. They said, the bloodwork came back normal. The Dr. did a rectal exam. The Dr said to my father, “wow, that is BLACK”. Didn’t examine his belly or send him for any other testing…They recommended that my father call his regular MD and check in with him…A woman came in, we paid our copay, then we got discharged. I feel like they didn’t even try to figure out why he has this problem.. From what I researched, these symptoms usually indicate some type of internal bleeding. This hospital used to be my top pick.. now I know why they are on the verge of closing.

Unfortunately this is not my first time dealing with the Emergency Department at South County hospital, and our experience there gets progressively worse each time.

I called to speak with the ER to help me gauge whether I should bring my elderly father in due to a concern with aspirating. I explained that he just had surgery and is not mobile and seeing as we are in a snowstorm, I wanted her to help me assess if what he was experiencing was normal or if we should be concerned. She did not listen to a word I said only to interrupt me to say that “aspirating” was if he was not breathing at all (this is not true, FYI) and she couldn’t give me any medical advice over the phone before hanging up.

I hope you never have to experience what we have, but if you go to South County you inevitably will. People in emergency situations shouldn’t have to deal with the cruelest of hospital staff in order to receive care. Absolutely disgusting.

The emergency department answering services has one of the rudest hospital staff I’ve ever spoken with in my life. This hospital should be ASHAMED of itself, and so should the nurses who elect to behave this way you are vile.

When my son was born here in 2012, the hospital was filthy. I had to point out blood on the floor of the room I was delivering in. After delivering my son the hospital needed the room I was staying in. A nurse woke me up to change rooms at 1:30am. After packing up all of my belongings, I sat there and waited for the nurse to come back. I was finally moved to a different location of the building at 4am.

Today my fiancé has surgery. I was the point of contact. When he was done with surgery they called the wrong number and gave his information and an update to the wrong person.

Unprofessional, unethical and not accommodating. I would highly suggest going elsewhere for any medical procedure.

they left an iv in my friends arm for 2 hours and did not come back to check on her or take it out. the nurse was incompetent and left her a huge bruise, could not put the iv, she put it in wrong and instead of taking it out and trying again she left it in her arm and moved it around. do better.

Bedside manner is kind of a crapshoot. There's good and bad ones. The cancer center leaves a lot to be desired. The nurses have always been a pleasure though.
Trying to pay bills they send is always ALWAYS frustrating. I'm sure they want to get paid but there are no easy ways to do it. I'd try for sending a check but I don't trust them with actually applying it to a currect bill. Their website is also never secure enough for an online bill pay and the very very few times it was the hoops you have to jump to pay. I'd avoid this place if you can only because dealing with anything after treatment/procedure is a nightmare.
Again tho, good nursing staff. They deserve better.
