Went at the end of October and it was beautiful. The dunes are full of mesquite trees. Did not see any sidewinders (I didn't go looking though). It's an easy hike up and down the dunes, you can see the parking lot from most of the dune peaks so it's easy to keep track of where you are.

Sunset is a beautiful time to go.

Amazing location in Death Valley - beautiful sand dunes that are fun to explore and photograph. Definitely bring water and expect more time than you think. Walking in the sand is tiring and getting to the bigger ones takes a bit of time. Recommend sunrise/early morning to beat crowds and heat - plus the sand will be less disturbed by foot traffic so better photos!

Another great place in Death Valley to experience! We've been at sunrise, midday and after dark. I think that sunrise is the best time to visit as the crowds are few and the temperature is cooler. We also hiked out a little way at night when the moon was full, it was fun but scary at the same time.

Perfect soft sand dunes . Bushes that are popping out from the ground so randomly are just adding to the atmosphere.
I believe that you can walk as far towards the dunes as you want, but most people stay couple of meters away from the parking lot. The reasons are practical - it's hot outside, the sand is also super hot, burning your feet, and it's hard to walk in the sand. So everybody walks into the dunes deep enough to take some nice pictures, but after couple of minutes then they return to their AC-ed cars or buses.
There are dry toilets at the parking lot close so dune's entry point.

Beautiful sands dune that have a vault toilet area nearby. The parking lot has nice spots for RVs. There are vault toilets and you have a lot of smart crows waiting for food.

It was already extremely hot at 9:30 a.m. on 9/3/2024. It's like stifling hot. We didn't walk out to the dunes, but other people were. The scary thing is that there are no trees or shady areas. That's why you see so many signs about heat!

Breathtaking scenery! The sand is like pure cane sugar and it's actually a decent size area. Word of advice, it's is stupeendously hot as you can see the sign. Drink plenty of water and make sure you don't wander off too far and you'll be alright.

Best sunrise viewpoint, but it is recommended to arrive at least 45 minutes early so that you can walk to the sand dunes.

The Sahara Desert in America!!! One of the most surreal places I’ve ever seen. Visited on a Saturday at 11am, and the parking lot had tons of room. Weather was 89F/31C, and the wind and clouds meant that the sand wasn’t unbearably hot to walk on!!! Bring tons of water, and hike out 30 minutes to the top of the big dune, it’s a MUST!
