PLEASE avoid Leasing and Management at all costs! I lived on Cannon St for 4 years and faced the worst customer service. They nickel-and-dimed me for every issue, from parking shortages to maintenance just not showing up. When my car was broken into and someone attempted to pick my front door lock, they refused to install security cameras despite a rent hike the month prior. (They increased my rent by $100-200/month each year I lived there).
The last straw was when I found some termite damage - I came home from work one day (with no heads up whatsoever) to find my floorboards ripped out to the ground and the wall that ran the length of my apartment ripped out. No one could give me a time frame as to how long my apartment would be like this… it went from “just a few days” to being an entire month that my apartment was inhabitable. Now, nearly 3 months after moving out, I finally got my security deposit back—only after they charged me $30 for it being "lost in the mail" the first time. They truly don’t care about their tenants!

If you are looking at leasing with this company - DO NOT! LOOK ELSEWHERE! The staff truly does not care about their tenants. In many regards - financially, infrastructure and safety-wise, there were MANY flaws that they refused to address, fix or even acknowledge.

The customer service was consistently terrible with terrible availability to address every problem that arose at both a one-off basis and a recurring basis.

I would give Rent Chas & Leasing and Management Co a NEGATIVE 100 if I could. UNethical, UNcommunicative, money grubbing slumlords are all they are. $20 a month for a air filter I can get at Walmart for less than $10, policy changes with no notice, constant property manager changes. Kept $1000 of my security deposit for "painting". Take TONS of pics like I did, so you can prove you left a place in perfect condition. I'll be getting my money back at an extra expense...to THEM. Woulda painted the place myself for less $40 before I moved out, IF it had needed it AND if it was even legal for them to require it! Its NOT, FYI to others. Pics taken MULTIPLE times after moved and before lease ended. Even filled in a touched up holes left by PREVIOUS weed smoking renters, and any picture nail holes larger than a pin.

As a vendor who's worked with leasingandmanagement for many years I can honestly say they truly care about their tenants and owners. From my experience they've always been extremely professional, responsive and attentive to tenants maintenance needs while putting their owners investment as top priority. I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in a property management company in the Charleston area!

I have had no issues at all with Leasing and Management. Laura Helmey has been very responsive whenever we had questions. Maintenance was also very responsive when we had an issue with one of our appliances. Overall, they were very easy to work with.

Our AC was broken for 23 days. Completely. Each time it would take around 36 hours to get someone to come fix. The company they work with is so unprofessional. They would come out and leave and say give it a few hours and it will get cold. Never did. 36-48 hours later they would come out again. Same thing. This happened 5 times over 23 days. Finally after hounding email after email the property manager says we'll get you a portable to give you some relief. The ac people come out, can't fix it and we're going to leave without giving us a portable. Why? Because the property manager never communicated to them to leave one. Why? Because they don't care. We had to beg the ac people for one. We got one day 15. It didn't help because they are made for one room
We have a big two bedroom. It was a Friday and nothing gets done unless it's m-fri with this property company and they screen every call. I asked the property manager can I go out and buy another one we are miserable at this point. Not sleeping, effecting work, can't cook or the apt is 85 degrees. She says yes and I'll make sure you are reimbursed ASAP. That was almost two weeks ago and I have not been reimbursed the $434 we spent on another portable just to get the temp down to 74.

This company is a nightmare. Also I pay my rent every time on the 1st. You have from 1st-5th to pay. If it doesn't draft out within that time frame they hit you with a late fee even though you paid within the correct window of time. They make it to where you can't pay early. This is such a scam.

Tara was an absolute delight to work with. Extremely patient and informative. I knew that if I had a question she would have an answer for me in no time at all. Utterly professional without sacrificing kindness. I can only hope future encounters with rental companies are involve someone of her caliber.
