READ BEFORE BECOMING A TENANT AT ANY PROPERTY MANAGED BY HELIX

In short, Helix is the most mismanaged and disorganized real estate management company I have ever experienced as a tenant. Here is why:

1. Their “customer service” is based over seas. How are you supposed to manage a property from thousands of miles away? They are not responsive to the contact numbers listed and you have no idea who you are talking with. At the building I leased at, the property manager left and they have failed to get a new property manager for months. I wonder why…

2. A month after moving in, without warning or notice, they began construction underneath mine and my neighbor’s units. Besides the noise waking us all up at 7 am every day, they have consistently turned off gas, water, and power. The construction continues until today (going on 5 months). Had I know there was going to be construction, I would have never moved in.

3. They have illegally conducted construction during improper hours. Pasadena law states that you cannot construct before 8 a.m. on Saturdays. They constructed at 7 a.m. on Saturday, August 31 on labor day weekend. Imagine just trying to get some sleep and you wake up to your apartment shaking from the loud bangs happening right under you. I took a video of this and would be happy to share it.

4. They have shut off water 3 times now without warning. The first time they did this they “warned us” about the shut off AFTER it had happened. The second time, they didn’t even both to warn us when they shut off the water on a SATURDAY when people are home. When I complained they said they would “warn us” in the future (which they should have been doing anyways?). The third time, again, they shut off the water WITHOUT WARNING and again on a Saturday!

Do yourself a favor and stay away from Helix. The moment my lease ends I’ll be sure to get out of here. Wishing you luck in your apartment search.

I lived at a Helix property for one year when I had to move suddenly and it was a great experience. The managers Tobin, Teagan, and Diego really did their best to make sure I was taken care of. Whenever there was an issue they resolved it quickly and I never felt unsafe.
Diego specifically did a great job when handling my move out. He was very clear and made the process incredibly easy. I would recommend working with Diego and his team in the future.

She was kind enough to let me re-visit a couple of units before I made my decision. Sometimes her responses were a little delayed, but it’s understandable when managing a lot of properties, and she always got back to me.

I’ve been living here for about 7 months now, and all my maintenance requests were resolved in a timely manner.

She was able to answer all my questions promptly and made me feel assured about signing a lease with their company. They have an in-house maintenance support which is a plus for me when choosing a rental.

We intended on staying at our apartment for 1 year, but because of the prompt responses, speedy turnaround, and easy communication we’re going on three years now. Things happens, issues arise and having dealt with extremely unpleasant management companies in the past it is truly a peace of mind having Helix’ reliability.

I've looked at several apartments for this company. At first I wasn't sure about because I never spoke to a person when scheduling appointments which should of been a first sign that this place is shady. I final spoke to agent and she tried to get me to write a positive review before even applying for an apartment. I finally applied and guess what? No one every called me no email confirming, no approval or denial. I've called a few times only to leave messages that go nowhere. The same apartments are circling online and I think they are just collecting application money. Now, I'm out of 45 bucks and no apartment status. I wouldn't apply here.

Complete scammers, retaliatory, slumlords. Fix nothing unless you report them to the fire marshal, public safety, or take them to court yourself. Pathetic and unprofessional. When you take them to court and the judge recognises them, on sight, for losing a massive lawsuit over totally illegal Covid evictions you know you’re dealing with a class act
