My worst experience applying to an apartment. The whole process was full of frustration but I want to be brief:

1) After we got approved, they wanted us to pay a $500 deposit to see the rental agreement. This is simply absurd as the agreement can contain anything. I understand paying a deposit for taking down the apartment from their website but not allowing us see the terms first doesn’t make any sense. What are you hiding?

2) The listing clearly stated that pets were considered for no additional monthly rent and deposit. After getting approved, Five Star told us to pay an amount higher the listing, now claiming pets do require a monthly rent.

3) Inconsistent application process information. We called their customer service twice to ask how applications are prioritized, and they assured us that as long as our move-in date is within 45 days, the first approved applicant will get the place. However, after we paid the $150 application fee (2 people + pet), they said the earliest move-in date will get the apartment. They used this to push us to move our move-in date sooner.
