Overall, our experience was ok while we lived in the D&S property but terrible right before and after we moved out.

While we were tenants, they were fairly responsive to issues we had, like taking down a hornet's nest and getting a washing machine looked at, though there was an issue with the A/C that was not going to be addressed until after the weekend, which was stressful while having a newborn at home. That being said, the location of the apartment was nice, and the quality of most of the apartment was pretty good. Cabinets are outdated, and some of the windows did not open; a toilet towel roll holder was not plastered to the wall well when we moved in, but it was tolerable.

Things got very spotty in the month before and after our move out. We were told that a walkthrough upon moving out would be done after we left due to covid19, and in hindsight, we should have insisted on doing an in-person walk through given the shady practices that followed. Ultimately, we had $800+ removed from our security deposit without an explanation. It took about a week of calling and emailing to get a response about why the deduction was made, which did not include the cost of the repairs or cleaning. We were never provided this information.

Any quick Google search will tell you it is ILLEGAL for general wear and tear costs to come out of the tenant's security deposit. It is also ILLEGAL to take money out of the security deposit without informing the tenant beforehand.

Also, it took about two weeks to get an automated rent payment back for a month we did not live in the unit. This is theft.

We're so disappointed that we ended on such a sour note. Just be aware that they will take your money when you move out of their properties.
