Alaska Legends Kenai River Lodge - Soldotna, Alaska

We hosted 25 of our friends and family at Alaska Legends Kenai River Lodge for our destination wedding! The lodge is absolutely stunning, clean, has everything you could possibly need, and is nestled right into the pines off of the Kenai River. Caleb and Linda were easy to work with, and Linda was very accommodating and hospitable - she gave us a FaceTime tour of the lodge before we booked, and met us a day early so we could see it in person before our guests arrived.

The only hiccup was deciding whether or not we would use the lodge's menu or hire an outside caterer. We had multiple, complex dietary restrictions to work around and opted to go for an outside caterer, as the lodge does not offer a chef per se - simply someone to cook for you. Regardless, Caleb and Linda were very flexible and supportive of us using an outside caterer!

I've been to this lovely lodge two summers in a row. The first year we went for the pink salmon run and really had a blast. They said that the total fish entering the river was below normal that year; but it didn't affect us. We had so many fish frozen on board our place that it barely got off the ground!

Last summer we had a family reunion there. Cousins and cousin's kids from all over the world attended. This facility handled the crowd quite handily. I don't know what the interior square footage is; but you can really spread out!

There was an airport very close by, that many people took to and from the Kenai Anchorage. Very convenient and surprisingly economical.

The fishing was awesome this year; with historically high numbers of salmon entering the river. Wildlife viewing was superb. Fine dining in Soldatna was great one night (so nobody had to cook), though the commercial grade kitchen at the lodge was fun and made us feel like professional chefs.

I love this place! It is so spacious and I love having a private bath now every room. It just feels solid; cozy and inviting. We’ve had family reunions and people can gather in the kitchen, dining room or even down by the dock. This place even has its own pub!

My husband and I got married here in July and it was better than I could have ever imagined. The location felt remote and serene while still being within 20 minutes of all major necessities. The owners went above and beyond to make sure we had every thing we needed. The lodge itself is a handcrafted work of art and we were able to sleep over 50 people on the premises. It is the perfect place for everything from family reunions to special events.

Booked the lodge for some meetings with a group in May 2021. Had an incredible time. Great service, great location, amenities inside and out, river location. It was my first time in Alaska and felt hosted in every way. Lodge caretaker, Linda, was generous and gracious. I loved it!

Steps away from the Kenai River and fishing right off the dock, the location is spectacular. The lodge itself is clean, cozy, and spacious, and the commercial-grade kitchen is perfect for preparing meals for large gatherings. It also has a pool table, a bar, space to relax, and plenty of room outside for yard games and events. Highly recommended!

My husband and I got married here in June of this year after a year and a half of planning. We found it through a wedding fair (pre-Covid) and what enticed us about this venue was the “all inclusive” aspect. Having been in several weddings before, the allure of being able to have everything in one place and the inclusion of services provided was attractive.

The venue itself is beautiful. It was very nice to have our friends and family in one place with the flexibility of being able to stay the night. Sitting down by the river on the metal dock brought us a wonderful sense of peace amid the chaos of putting the production of a wedding together.

Our problem mainly lies with the wedding package. I would recommend to anyone renting this venue to get your wedding necessities elsewhere. I promise you, it will be far cheaper to rent tables, chairs, linens, and dinnerware from a rental service in Kenai or Soldotna. We paid $2500 for the above listed items (with set up and clean up services) which were not received with additional fees being quoted for moving items from the ceremony to the reception (approximately 500 feet) the day of.

When we brought our concerns to the general manager it took over two months to get a response. I felt that over the year and a half leading up to our wedding we had build up a good rapport with him so I was surprised that It took so long to hear back. When we did receive the answer it was dismissive and defensive with a comment of “our expectations were too high”. This was incredibly disappointing. When you spend a decent sum of money on services in the expectation that they will be provided and some of the services are not, you expect some level of understanding. The view from the property is worth the price of the venue itself but we would highly recommend seeking outside resources and not relying on the venue for the additional wedding services. Especially if you are not looking to add stress on a day meant to be blissful.

I have attended an event here in the past few months. And honestly, I do not understand how anybody can give this place a five star review. It's insanity! This place is hands down the most poorly put together establishment I have ever stayed in. First off, every bit of the construction outside of the main hall was shoddy at best. Second. The staff that we worked with to help setup for the event was apathetic at best. I have had fresh privates in the military that cared more about the final outcome of their work. And finally, the beds. I have never slept on a worse bed in my life. I would rather have dug myself a ranger grave and crawl in that. All and all, 10 out of 10. Will not go anywhere near there again!
