I had an extremely frustrating experience with Upmarket Inc. in Bakersfield, CA. I rented a property from them starting in May 2024, and the condition of the house upon move-in was far from satisfactory. The house was not properly cleaned, the dishwasher was broken, and the patio was cluttered with old, broken furniture. When I moved in, Gill handed me a piece of paper and told me to note any issues needing attention, then promptly left me with the keys within 30 minutes—leaving little time for a proper inspection or to address concerns. Despite these issues, I paid for a professional cleaning and removal of the patio furniture, and did not raise concerns at that time.

When I moved out, I made sure the house was cleaned professionally and left it in significantly better condition than when I moved in. Due to a family emergency, I had to move out a month earlier than planned. Since the lease was transferred, I wasn’t required to pay the final month’s rent, which meant I was expecting my security deposit to be refunded.

However, the process of retrieving my deposit was a nightmare. I called the office multiple times, and after several back-and-forth exchanges with Gill, I made no progress. We had scheduled an appointment for a move-out inspection at 12 PM on the day I was leaving, but Gill didn’t show up until 1:30 PM and didn’t leave until 3 PM. I was driving across state lines with two babies and repeatedly told him I needed to leave, yet he took his time and showed no urgency.

After exhausting all other options, I sought legal advice and was prepared to take legal action before the company finally took my concerns seriously and refunded my deposit.

Ultimately, my deposit was returned, but the overall lack of professionalism, poor communication, and blatant disregard for my time and situation made this a highly stressful and unpleasant experience. I strongly advise anyone considering renting from Upmarket Inc. to carefully consider other options to avoid the same frustrations.

Stay away from Upmarket Inc and it's owner Baljit Gill! They lie and are into shady business!!!!!

Company takes months for simple repairs or tries to have the tenants fix stuff on their own dime. This place is a joke and I hope they can get their act together. I’ve been waiting months to get my house put back together after their vendor messed up my floor installation. It’s been 4 weeks and my toilet is still leaking without being repaired. It’s now damaging the walls and the vanity.

I am a landlord and they have managed my properties for over 16 years. Ben is a great maintenance coordinator. Every time when he received a maintenance request from a tenant, he texted me immediately for my approval. I never declined a request from Ben and always replied within minutes. He then moved ahead to have the repair done for my tenant.

Hard to recommend a property management company that doesn’t manage or maintain the property that they rent out.

Office seems understaffed and they have the maintenance guy doing administrative work. Repairs take months to get taken care of, but when you tell them you are calling code enforcement or the fire marshal, they find the budget and the time to fix your issues right away.

The owner seems to be out of the country for long periods of time, which leads to employees who slack off and push issues onto the renter when they are landlord responsibilities.

Don’t give your house to this company he got rent from tenant between 1 to 5 and he give to owner after 20 or 25 days if you call like 30 time very bad experience with them 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

No one ever answers the phone when there is an issue. Maintenance requests take months to be resolved. Based on other reviews I expect to have to take them to small claims court to get my deposit back.

Would give a 0 star if possible… Told the guy to put up our house for rent… he never calls back and 4-5 months go by no response… he is not responsible and does absolutely nothing… he is not serious about his business… definitely wouldn’t recommend…
