I never thought I’d ever buy a home sight unseen, but I found myself doing just that this past spring. I urgently needed to move from Chicago to Rhode Island, but realized that I could only spare a few months to empty out my old home of 35 years and find a nice place to land. I didn’t come at this entirely cold since my daughter’s family lives in South County. So I had some knowledge of what I wanted and where.
Kerry Bell of Key Realty must have seen one of the desperate messages that I had left with multiple realtors and was the first to respond. I told her up front that I couldn’t afford to travel to Rhode Island for a lengthy search because I had a house full of stuff to deal with before I could put my own home on the market. But my extremely competent daughter, I explained, would be willing to search prospective properties for me with Kerry, and I would tag along on a Zoom call. No problem. Soon they were visiting a few homes per week with me following along on the cell phone.
Through Kerry’s patience and resourcefulness, I learned what locations and properties were most suitable to my needs. She was entirely flexible about our arrangement and we must have visited close to ten properties -- covering the county from north to south -- before we found my new home in South Kingstown. I even got to attend the inspection virtually.
Key Realty had also prepared their own virtual 3D tours of many of the properties I was considering, and I found this tool very useful. The first time I visited the property was the day before I closed on it, yet I literally knew my way around the dwelling. This tool also proved invaluable for estimating available space for my belongings.
I can’t exaggerate how satisfied I was with the entire transaction. Kerry found me a great home. I appreciated her flexibility with our search arrangement and unusual schedule, her vast knowledge of the housing stock and resources throughout the county, her friendliness and good humor, and most of all, her intrepid drive to satisfy the client. Thank you, Kerry. You really helped me with a daunting task.
