Last spring I met Jamie Petrick, a real estate agent, at a Debbie Dogrul (DD) home seller's seminar. After 30 years in Fairfax I needed to sell my house and move closer to my daughter.

I knew my 65 year old house would need to be upgraded to the 21st century. Jaime brought DD's resident interior designer to inspect the property. As expected, she had numerous suggestions. Jaime also brought a contractor from Design Pro Remodeling who they had worked with on previous properties.

On Jamie's advice, I decided to wait until January to put the house on the market. That is a time of year with fewer houses on the market. I needed the extra time to dispose of excess furniture and belongings since my new home would be much smaller. I also had plenty of time to find a new home in Las Vegas and give Design Pro the 2 months needed for remodeling.

I was able to research the Las Vegas area in September with the help of a friend of Jamie who was a realtor in Vegas. I flew to Vegas in early October and quickly chose my new home with settlement in early November.

I moved out of Fairfax at the end of October and gave Design Pro November and December to work on the house. Their cost estimate was very reasonable and was about what I had expected. Jamie kept me up to date remotely with pictures of their progress.

Design Pro completed the remodeling on time and very close to the original estimate. The house went on the market in early January and due to the DD marketing campaign there were over 80 visitors that weekend. We had 13 proposals by our Tuesday noon deadline and a few more came in later. I selected a proposal for more than $100,000 over the asking price.

Of course there was a last minute glitch, the Sunday before settlement, a tree fell on the house! Fortunately, there was no interior damage, just minor roof damage. Jaime got estimates for emergency tree removal the next day. I selected a tree company and the tree was gone on Tuesday. We also got an estimate from Design Pro to fix the roof and that work was all complete on Wednesday, in time for the Friday settlement.

In all, the sale couldn't have gone better. DD provided outstanding support and Jamie monitored the construction, kept me up to date with progress pictures, and conducted the open house. This allowed me to remain in Vegas in November, December and January. I even completed the settlement remotely!

I strongly recommend Debbie Dogrul Associates and Jamie Petrick for anyone buying or selling a house in Northern Virginia.
