I recently used Better Mortgage to purchase my first home, and overall, my experience was excellent. One of the standout features of this company is its user-friendly online platform. The process for tracking your loan status is straightforward and efficient, allowing for easy document uploads and approvals. The user portal is top-notch, making it simple to stay informed throughout the journey, with constant updates from the loan processors, who are outstanding.

However, there are some drawbacks typical of large online corporations. When I needed specific answers or faced unusual circumstances, reaching someone directly proved challenging. The streamlined process works well in most cases, but it can feel too rigid for those with complex situations. The underwriters, who hold the keys to qualification guidelines, are not accessible, which can leave you feeling stuck in a one-size-fits-all process.

That said, if you have experience in homebuying and are comfortable navigating the system, Better Mortgage is a great choice. They offer flexibility in adjusting rates and switching loan products. However, for those who need more guidance and a personal touch, it may not be the best fit. Overall, for what they offer, Better Mortgage excels in efficiency and ease of use.

I recently tried to use Better mortgage for a refinance but unfortunately they were unable to help. I even had cancelled with another lender I was working with for promise of a faster closing and better rate. However, after working with Kasey and Alexa, they let me know that they would not be able to proceed because my HOA does not have fidelity/ crime insurance. This problem did not come up with my original mortgage holder or the other lender I was originally working with. I regret switching to Better because they were not able to complete my refinance.

The worst shop I’ve ever dealt with. They set false expectations, they do not understand their own process and guidelines. The shop has excessive turn over of staff and your transaction is dropped then reassigned each time. I was assigned 4x processors due to maternity leave, no longer with the company, you name it! Then I was asked to provide the most Ridiculous documents; letters from banks that are not standard and when I did satisfy the request they made additional excuses to steer the outcome in the direction of a denial. The refinance process took near 90 days and this was a straight forward refinance with no cash out of existing debt, no change in ownership on investment property with a good credit customer maintaining a 700+ FICO score. One word, RUN! They’re not worth your time. Complete amateurs who talk a good game, but fail to deliver. Still waiting on a refund of the fee that was paid upfront.

If I could give negative stars, I would.. we were first time home buyers and nothing was better, with “better”. I couldn’t even make contact with lender, never even spoke on the phone with our coordinator. Eventually they told us we would have to wait 30-60 days to close, we went to a different lender and closed 8 days past our initial closing date! They were not in anyway prepared for closing and instead of being upfront; they made it out to be as if we were the hold up. Now we are proud first time home buyers with Waterstone Mortgage

Terrible experience. The original loan officer was great! Everything after was a nightmare. They have too many people working the loan who seem to not communicate with each other. Multiple people from multiple departments asking for the same documentation from you over and over and over again. The level of incompetence was astounding.

Very efficient and easy mortgage application process. All can be done online. When you have trouble getting a loan from other banks, try Better, and you will not regret. Highly recommend.

Smooth experience for our first home purchase. Their rates were significantly lower than competitors and their fees were in line with others. The team we had (Drew and Andre) were responsive and knowledgeable and helped us throughout the process. Working with their website was also a better experience than other lender websites, pretty streamlined experience. If you're not comfortable working with the tech and rather do it the old fashioned way, they might not be for you.

Don't waste your efforts or energy with these scammers! The preapproval process is not a "true" approval but the loan agent will have you foolishly looking for a home without the actual loan application being submitted to underwriting for a definite approval! The agents will ghost you after they have gotten your personal information which can be quite disturbing in the times we live in. I will definitely be scanning my financial credit and banking institution to ensure that nothing suspicious is going on. Online mortgage is unverifiable to some extent and we really don't know who we are dealing with on the phone. Consumers are much better off going to their LOCAL mortgage company or bank where at least the agent is in your city or state which allows for more accountability.

I will be filing a complaint against Better.com with the BBB & the CFPB (consumer financial protection bureau) and filing a complaint against the lending officer I spoke with to verify licensing.
